a very fine gypsum or concrete-based plaster used in the construction industry as decorative coating for walls and ceilings and as a sculptural and artistic material in architecture. It may be used to cover less visually appealing construction materials such as metal, concrete, wood or clay brick. Its composition may vary: traditional stucco is made from lime, sand, and water, but additives or glass fibers may be added in order to increase its resistance and workability. Some mixtures (mainly gypsum-based) are used for the interiors, as they cannot tolerate wet conditions, but some mixtures may also be used as an exterior cement plaster wall covering. Mixtures of stucco, resins and glues are used as connecting materials between architectural elements or to smooth plasterboards or gypsum-covered elements.
